There is a lot of information about what to eat, what pills and supplements to take and what actions to take in books and online. If we were to boil it all down though, it essentially comes down to being responsible with your diet and lifestyle. The Acupuncture Fertility Plan takes this into account.

A good diet and lifestyle will not only help get you pregnant, it will also help safeguard your health. Funnily enough, the reverse is true. The more you safeguard your health, the more likely it is that you will be able to get pregnant.

As with all things in life – it all comes down to being balanced.

Taking this for read, here’s Pagoda Acupuncture Clinic’s very simple Acupuncture Fertility Plan to put into effect immediately you decide to have a child.

Your Acupuncture Fertility Plan

The plan works on preparing a healthy egg and healthy sperm for conception.  This means we have to put the plan into effect well before the point of conception.

Acupuncture Fertility Plan

How far ahead should you plan?

At the most basic level:

  • The egg is ripened about 3 months prior to ovulation
  • The sperm that will ripen the egg is grown 2 months before it reaches the egg

So we have a base lead time of 3 months to get our bodies in to their best condition. Unfortunately though, it’s a little more complicated than that. Birth control can have lingering repercussions on our bodies.

The average timescales for bodies to normalise after birth control are as follows:
  • Up to 18 months if you are using depo provera or have an hormonal implant
  • Up to 12 months if you are on the pill
  • Up to 6 months if you are fitted with an IUD
  • 0 months if you are using a condom, cap or diaphragm!
This means that you now have a lead time of up to 18 months. But that’s not a problem. On the bright side, it gives you a chance to get your body into the best shape it has ever been. You’ll feel amazing as a result and that’s no bad thing !

So what should you do straight away?

Acupuncture Fertility Plan

When you come up with an idea of when you would like to try to conceive, work backwards from the lead time that is appropriate to you.
Let’s say you are using depo provera. Assuming you want to start trying to conceive in 18 months time, you should:
  • Stop using depo provera immediately and start using a condom, cap or diaphragm as your means of birth control
  • Follow the steps in the following sections to get yourself into the best position to conceive
  • Stop using the condom, cap or diaphragm after 18 months
  • Then start penetrative sex without any forms of protection
If you were planning to start trying to conceive in 6 months time
  • Stop using depo provera immediately and start using a condom, cap or diaphragm as your means of birth control
  • Follow the steps in the following sections to get yourself into the best position to conceive
  • Stop using the condom, cap or diaphragm after 6 months
  • Start penetrative sex without any forms of protection
  • Realise that using depo provera means that you might not be able to conceive for on average another 12 months
O.K, that’s the maths done. Lets look at getting your body into great shape to conceive.

The Do Less Of, Or Do Without Actions (sorry!)

  1. Limit alcohol to 2 units a day. Don’t forget that if you are recording a Basal Body Temperature chart it will confuse your readings.
  2. Limit caffeine to 3 cups a day. If you can, cut it out completely as it damages your body’s Yin. Find out more about your Yin and managing it here.
  3. Stop smoking – no explanations required for this one !

The Dos and Do More Ofs

  1. Keep a Body Basal Temperature chart with details of your cycle on it.
  2. Ask your partner to have a sperm test. If his sperm is not able to fertilise an egg, no amount of the following actions will help!
  3. Make sure you are having regular penetrative UNPROTECTED sex
  4. Female orgasm increases the chances of conception. Female orgasm up to 40 minutes after his ejaculation gives the best chance of conception. Sorry boys, it’s time to do your bit instead of slipping into a dreamy sleep !
  5. To replace deficiencies caused by birth control methods: Take: 15mg Zinc daily; 250mg Vitamin C daily; 100mg Vitamin B6 daily; 400ug of folic acid daily; iron rich supplements such as spatone and flouravital
  6. Schedule:
    1. A rubella immunity screen
    2. A pap smear if you are not currently up to date
    3. An STD screen
  7. Follow the diet to nourish your Yin (it also cools you down and decreases anxiety). This will ensure your body is well nourished with a specific slant on fertility.

That’s it. That’s the Acupuncture Fertility Plan done. So start getting in the best health of your life… now!! 🙂
